A look at an intense form of training being used by some Olympic athletes

As a lifelong athlete and personal trainer, I’ve tried every exercise technique in existence. But this is something at a whole other level.

You may have seen the practice of Blood Flow Restriction Training being used by some athletes at the Tokyo Olympics. It seems bizarre — and pretty intense — and has raised a lot of eyebrows.

Athletes are always trying to push the limits, and find an advantage. This is a look at a new training approach that has been getting a lot of coverage lately.

What is Blood Flow Restriction Training?

This may seem like a new type of training but has existed…

The importance of quality audio for entrepreneurs, businesses, and marketing

There are no more excuses for poor-sounding audio. The technology and costs have improved so much that inferior sound should be a thing of the past.

At some point, every entrepreneur will need to record their voice. Whether you podcast, screen share, live stream, are on Clubhouse, or create video/YouTube: audio is king.

With video, I would argue it’s more important than image quality. Even during a simple interview, quality sound is paramount to make a good impression and represent yourself and your business. …

I hope you aren’t missing out on podcasting. As good as other platforms are; blogs, social media, YouTube, etc., nothing touches podcasts when it comes to engagement.

There’s also much less competition in podcasting. There are hundreds of millions of blogs and social media pages, but only around two million podcasts.

With a podcast, you and your listener have a more intimate connection. You are right there in their ear with them wherever they go. I’ve been podcasting for six years, and when I talk to listeners, they tell me how they feel as if they already know me.

15 affirmations to start your day on a positive note

Photo by Katrina Wright on Unsplash

This was a game-changer for me. This isn’t about a morning routine — there are a million articles on that — but more about getting yourself in the right headspace to start the day.

My mornings used to involve stumbling out of bed and wondering what would go wrong for the day. I realize how terrible that seems, but I often wrote the day off before it even began.

Affirmations were the way to take back control of the day. It’s a simple way to get yourself into a positive mindset and set yourself up for success.

What Are Affirmations?

An affirmation is…

Is this genuine product improvement or just a marketing ploy?

Two cans of Coca-Cola Zero

I’m getting that sense of deja vu. If you grew up in the 80s, you know exactly where this is going. But we’ll get to that in a moment.

Coca-Cola wants to change the flavor of one of its flagship products: Coke Zero Sugar, formerly known as Coke Zero. As people have become more health-conscious, they’ve moved away from sugary beverages. They still want that Coke taste, just without the calories.

Diet Coke is close, but Coke Zero was much closer. …

Spoiler alert: It was a lot more than the original

I realize the headline for this article looks a little “Inceptiony,” but let me explain.

About a year ago, I wrote an article about simple ways to stay healthy. I’m a personal trainer and nutritionist, so it wasn’t too hard to put together. It maybe took me an hour. It was simple, but full of some decent information.

This article went relatively viral on here and quickly accumulated 60,000 views. It also earned some decent money and was soon up to $1000. This was pretty mind-blowing for me. It was the first article of mine that made a decent splash.

How the robotic assistant worked like a Trojan Horse for the NES

Over the years, there have been many accessories for Nintendo. But one was absolutely critical in its early success.

The Robotic Operating Buddy, or R.O.B., was a robotic assistant for the Nintendo Entertainment System. It played the games with you but was slow and challenging to use.

Did it over-promise and under-deliver as a video game accessory? Possibly, but the point was to help change the perception of video games, and for that reason; it worked.

This is the story of how R.O.B. may have saved the video game industry.

Hollywood would be a much different place today if not for a shark

It’s pretty easy to dismiss Jaws. But when was the last time you really watched it and appreciated it for everything it is?

Today, Jaws is very commonplace. It’s such an ingrained part of pop culture — and the movie zeitgeist — that many don’t give it a second thought.

But if it wasn’t for Jaws, movies as we know it may not be at the level they are. It gave rise to the blockbuster, created the summer movie season, changed how studios approached movies, and let Steven Spielberg take his unique vision to the world.

Ditch the imperfect science and use your hands for better portion sizes

I hope that all forms of calorie counting fade away faster than my love life.

Not only is it time-consuming, but calorie counting may be quite inaccurate. Instead, you have a good measuring tool attached to you — two of them, actually.

Your hand can serve as a decent way to determine portions sizes as the size of your hand correlates pretty well to your body size. Over the years, portions sizes have grown out of control, but your hand stays the same.

I’ve spent over 20 years as a personal trainer and nutritionist, and have found this to be…

The editing software you have to see to believe

I may be late to the party, but the first time I saw a demo of Descript, I couldn’t believe what I was watching.

Descript is a transcription tool for audio and video, but it’s the best editing software you may ever see. Whether you work in podcasts, YouTube, screen recording, marketing, or presentations, you’ll want to check out Descript.

What Is Descript?

Descript is an all-in-one audio and video editing tool. What makes it stand out is that you edit your content the same way you would with a document.

If you create audio/video content, you know the editing process often takes…
