Let me be clear, it’s not that I have anything against Squid Game, and I may watch it down the road — I’m just not going to watch it now.

Let me explain.

It’s not that I’ve been burned too many times before on a series I feel I need to watch (we’ll get to that in a minute), but it comes down to the fact I don’t want to watch something because I feel I have to.

I prefer to wait until the dust has settled on a popular series to see if it’s still intriguing enough to draw me in. It’s happened a few times, and many other times — I feel like I didn’t miss out on anything.

Whenever a new series comes out that is overly popular, I feel it’s the hype that draws the interest as opposed to the actual content. Word-of-mouth travels so fast that it feels like you have no choice but to watch the hot new series de jour.

This is the case with Squid Game. I haven’t seen hype for a series like this in a while. But is the series more about the hype than the actual content? I feel that if a show can really stand on its own, it will still garner some appeal 6 months down the road.

Peer pressure seems to emerge to watch a new series because you don’t want to feel left out — even if you…

Some health, a little marketing, and a lot of 1980s content
